Tell us about working for UKWS

Working for UKWS is a unique and fantastic opportunity. A company who takes great pride in their work and who are growing rapidly. The excitement in working for UKWS has not ran out from the day I first walked through the door. The opportunity to work with skilled colleagues who have vast experience within the construction sector is a great help and the perfect surrounding and environment for somebody who is taking their first steps within the industry.

What does a typical day look like for you and what are you currently working on?

Everyday working for UKWS is unique. The competitive nature of the company means that every project is unique, diverse, and exciting. Day to day tasks can vary from dealing with enquiries, taking-off projects and gathering material rates, costing projects, and submitting quotations in response to tender invitations. UKWS also ensure you have every opportunity to go out and visit live projects and meet other members of the team. It has been a valuable experience to learn off those out on site and a lot of skills that have been learnt out on site have been transferrable in the office. The ability to see projects develop from an early stage at tender to the actual construction process and the handover is truly a fantastic experience.

What is the most interesting element that you have worked on?

From a personal perspective, the most interesting element has been to work alongside some of the major main contractors within the industry. The ability to build relationships and understand the level of detail, accuracy and thought process that goes behind every step of the construction process has been particularly interesting. It is coming up to an exciting period for UKWS as a large roll out of projects are due to start on site in which I have had a strong involvement in the tender stage which is a great opportunity to see how it pieces together and develops towards completion.

What is on your wish list for your next five years here?

My targets for the next five years at UKWS are to consolidate my understanding and skills as an Estimator, progress well and play my part in helping the company grow and surpass the extremely high potential it has. UKWS have all the tools and support available to facilitate my journey, so it is my intention to settle down, work hard and enjoy the ride!
